Do the xbox live cards that you buy at walmart work for the old.original xbox?

I have an original xbox, and walmart sells xbox live cards for 360s. Will these work for my old xbox?
"Yes they do work but you cant do it from your xbox you have to do it online at xbox.com through the my xbox area and then use you xbox’s account recovery feature and enter in the same info you put on the website and your good!"
