How do you go into 3rd person view in Halo 3?

I saw people on youtube go into 3rd person view in Halo 3 campaign, but I’ve tried everything and I still cant find out how to. Does anyone know how?
You can’t go into 3rd person during gameplay, but you can go in under theater mode.
Just hit the directional pad up or down. Also use the y button to lock and unlock the camera on one person.
